Our
Story
“In a setting of scenic splendor and climatic mildness unrivalled anywhere, Vista del Monte, the beautiful new retirement residence on the outskirts of Santa Barbara, was officially dedicated.” So began a January 10, 1965 article covering the dedication of our retirement community. Then owned and operated by Southern California Teachers Homes, Vista del Monte opened its doors on July 1, 1964, tucked away in Santa Barbara’s Hidden Valley.

During the next four decades, The Foundation to Assist California Teachers (FACT) and later Front Porch, helped Vista del Monte grow into a beautiful retirement community serving seniors from all walks of life. During the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Vista del Monte enjoyed a number of exciting additions, including the opening of its Personal Care and Adult Day Care programs, full-service Care Center, the expansion of our resident lounge and library, health clinic and our outstanding Fitness and Aquatic Center.

Vista del Monte has certainly grown but one constant throughout our entire history is the warm and inclusive sense of community shared by all of our residents and staff.
Vista del Monte is part of the Front Porch family and is supported philanthropically by FACT. |
