Make
A Difference
Many of our residents choose Vista del Monte because of the strong bonds they have developed with the greater Santa Barbara community. Our residents express their love of life by making a difference in the lives of others. The Vista Volunteer Program is made up of 49 volunteers who give back to Vista and the Santa Barbara community at large by giving more than 850 hours per month. Our Garden Committee volunteers at the Santa Barbara Mission. We have on-call substitute teachers who volunteer at local schools, docents who offer their time to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and senior peer counselors who help people deal with the challenges of aging. Resident Dr. Ramon Alcerro and his wife, Tancis, perform medical volunteer work; Ramon at his Santa Barbara psychiatric practice, and Tancis at Vista’s Care Center.
Resident Payton Jordan has inspired people of all ages at Vista and beyond. A former world-class sprinter, football All-American and Olympic coach, Jordan modeled courage, faith and passion when he achieved his greatest victory in 2006 – his win over cancer. He challenges everyone to look at life as a race to be finished with spirit and joy. |
